The author of XKCD (along with a lot of other amazing works) Randall Monroe is doing a tour for his newest book, “How To”. His stop in Berkeley will also have Adam Savage (Mythbusters, etc.).
You should check it out.
His last book, “What If”, was absolutely amazing. I let a friend borrow it, and she refused to give it back. Bought another copy, let another friend borrow it.... Ditto. That friend bought me a new book because she “didn’t want to wait a day for delivery”.
Here’s a link for an excerpt from the new Book Randall is touring for

And some bonus comics

I’m calling bs on Michelangelo being more known as a ninja turtle than an artist.

Just because you guys lost Toledo and the federal government gives you a piece of land you’re not even connected with to shut you up

If anyone could legitimately be called a genius , it’s this guy.
Full of the sound of the Gran Fury, signifying nothing.

The “How Well Something Works” chart is very familiar thanks to finds from the Goodwill Outlet . I have been known to take a hammer to failed repair projects just to ensure that I don’t throw more money at the problem trying to fix the things that I just broke. Years later I’m still finding shards of digital camera in the oddest places. It was a cheap camera, and wouldn’t be worth all that much i f properly repaired. I like to make sure that I don’t go down that r abbit hole, spending more money on parts than I would for a working unit on eBay, especially since it’s probably a device I wasn’t going to use even if it was fully functional...
I like cars: Jim Spanfeller is one ugly motherfucker

I live in Delaware and work in Eastern Maryland, I'm pretty sure most of the people I interact with on a daily basis would have no problem with those changes.

I can appreciate how disturbing that is, but as someone who works with the general public on a near daily basis, I think if anything they're being generous to the master artist there..

What If is great, but strictly speaking, it’s not his previous book. This is:

Not as good as What If, but still fun. A book sized version of this:

it wouldn’t be so bad if Wisconsin wasn’t also trying to claim to be the “mitten” state. I’m not sure what kind of deformity you’d have to have in order to have a Wisconsin shaped mitten.

I n the graphic artists defense... there is a part of ‘just give to Canada’ that you have to drive through Canada just to get to. (You cannot drive to it from the US)

I learned about West Virginia’s little tip between Ohio and Pennsylvania last weekend. I thought I was driving in the wrong directions when I saw the “Welcome to West Virginia” sign. Pulled over and checked the maps.

Take a deep breath and cut wires
I love that the reaction is the same whether you’re disarming a bomb or fixing something.
(Turn to other possessions ) ...And let that be a lesson to you.
Modern technology (appliances, cars, computers, etc.) can smell fear; approach with confidence and you’ll have no issues. Alternatively, scare the shit out of them by sacrifi cing another of their kind to ensure your dominance.
